Uploading and managing documents
Give the AI your policies so answers cite real sources
Supported formats
- PDF (.pdf) — text must be selectable; scanned images can't be read.
- Word (.docx, .doc)
- Plain text (.txt)
- CSV (.csv) — useful for structured control lists or exported registers.
You can upload documents individually or in bulk — drag a whole folder's worth in at once.
What happens on upload
Documents are stored in encrypted cloud storage, their text is extracted, and the content is indexed for semantic search. From then on, Draft with AI can find and cite relevant passages when generating answers.
What to upload
The documents that answer questionnaire questions are the ones worth uploading:
- Information security and data protection policies
- Access control, incident response, and business continuity procedures
- Privacy policies and data handling procedures
- HR security policies (onboarding, offboarding, training)
- Any past compliance documentation you reference when answering by hand
Keeping it current
Stale documents produce confidently stale answers. When a policy is updated, upload the new version and delete the old one — you can delete any document at any time, and removed documents stop being cited immediately.
